Artificial Intelligence and Robotics

I support a number of regulatory schemas concerning artificial intelligence (AI).  First, if adaptive Artificial Generative Intelligence (AGI) ever becomes truly viable, I believe it needs to be carefully restricted from general use, and I would support legislation to that effect.  There are far too many ways AGI could be used for nefarious and destructive tasks, and I believe it would be enormously disruptive socially and economically.  The current level of large language model (LLM) AI and robotics represents a near-term threat to many jobs in the economy if those jobs have not already been destroyed.  I don’t think it is possible to stop or rollback widespread use of LLM AI and robotics, but I would look for and support a legislative means to slow down their continued introduction to the business environment, into health care, and education.  The expectation would be to avoid significant economic turmoil and disruption by allowing time and providing the resources for people to be retrained in new jobs where AI and robotics have not destroyed them or find new business opportunities.  I would also support legislation defending people’s creative property and likenesses from being pirated by AI without the owner’s permission and compensation.  Finally, it will be important to provide the resources to stand up an effective “watchdog” government agency that employs or contracts people who have the training to effectively monitor AI and robotic upgrade compliance with protective legislation.
